About Morgan

The Basics

I am 45 years old and very happily married to my husband, Tommy Kochel, a professional musician and a Professor of English As a Second Language and English Composition at Harrisburg Area Community College.  We have no children, as our animal companions are allergic.  I'm a California native now living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, since 1997.

I also keep a blog, Journey to Awakening, and work as a  Spiritual Counselor and Tarot Reader, often combining both for clients who are open to it.  I plan to begin building a website soon that will include a desciption of my work with Tarot, as well as information on a wide variety of topics.

Main Interests

More than anything, I truly enjoy spending my time reading, learning, contemplating, studying, and discussing (with open-minded people) anything having to do with the Great Mysteries of the Universe.  Learning about the latest findings in quantum physics is exciting to me because, at this point in history, scientists are finally beginning to understand that spirituality and science are complimentary, not opposites.

Another deep interest of mine is the study of the what is often called "paranormal."  I consider myself an "intelligent inquirer."  I neither believe everything I see and hear, nor do I simply dismiss that which I do not understand.  One of my goals is to do some serious investigating into alleged hauntings; I have several theories about what may actually be causing these various phenomena, and these theories need to be tested using a variety of technological equipment and other willing researchers.  In order to do this, I need to build a team of scrupulous investigators who, like myself, are interested in the truth -- even if that truth turns out not to be what was expected.

In the meantime, I find myself in and out of college courses (see below) as I work toward a degree in psychology.  Although I am currently taking a hiatus due to the recent passing of my father in December, I plan to return to school and complete it in order to open my own private practice.

Formal Education

I am currently working on a Bachelors in Psychology through Ashford University.  Prior to that, I received my A.A. in Liberal Arts from Harrisburg Area Community College, and certificates in both Chemical Dependency Counseling and Human Services from American River College.  I also spent a year at Lancaster Theological Seminary

Work Experience

I worked for seven consecutive years as a legal secretary in Berkeley and Oakland, California, before deciding to return to school for training in psychology as a counselor.  I completed an internship at Charter Hospital in Roseville, California, in 1995, where I worked with a diverse population of addicted people who also presented with a variety of emotional disorders.  Immediately afterward, I married my present husband and we moved to Lancaster, PA, where we now reside.  Since then, I have spent my time in and out of college, continuing my education in psychology and spirituality while freelancing as a spiritual counselor.

I have extensive experience in working with people from different spiritual backgrounds, and have counseled people of all ages.  I've also had great success in adding the art of Tarot reading to client sessions when requested.  More on how this is accomplished will be explained on a forthcoming website.

Current Most Meaningful Quote

"When you choose not to identify with the movement of thoughts and emotions, sooner or later you will have the profound experience of your own Self standing free from the mind-free from the compulsive habit of conceptualization and personalization. Your awareness will become so vast that it embraces all things, while simultaneously being the experience of freedom from all things. You will discover that you are resting as awareness itself, beyond all thought and emotion. It is the presence of this miraculous depth of attention that makes one who is enlightened appear to be unusually awake." ~ Andrew Cohen, author and spiritual teacher
