"O ye who believe, obey Allah and the Apostle ta'atilah (His), and ulil amri among you" (Surah An Nisa ': 59). The scholars explain that the word ulil amri (ruler) of this paragraph is repeated with the word "أطيعوا" (obey). This shows that obedience to authority exists for corresponding with obedience to God and His Messenger.

Also mentioned in the hadith,

لا طاعة فى معصية, إنما الطاعة فى المعروف

Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam also said:

على المرء المسلم, فيما أحب وكره, ما لم يؤمر بمعصية, فإذا أمر بمعصية فلا سمع ولا طاعة

"A Muslim is obliged to hear and obey in case she likes it or hate it for not instructed to engage in immoral acts. If instructed to engage in immoral, then there is no obligation to hear and obey "(Narrated by Bukhari, no. 7144).

'Ali bin Abi Tholib once said,

إن الناس لا يصلحهم إلا إمام بر أو فاجر, إن كان فاجرا عبد المؤمن فيه ربه, وحمل الفاجر فيها إلى أجله

"People are not going to be good, but under a good ruler and fajir (wrongdoers). If the rulers of the wrongdoers, while it is believed, then it is a matter kezhalimannya him with his Lord "(Narrated by Ibn Abi Syaibah in his Mushannaf, 15: 328).
