Charitable professional Barry Gurvitch maintains a strong involvement with New York City's philanthropic organizations. When not donating his time and resources to groups that support elderly care, food distribution to the underserved, and affordable housing, Barry Gurvitch serves as Senior Executive and Partner of Artimus, a New York City real estate developer and area leader in building low-income housing. As a philanthropic contributor to DOROT, Barry Gurvitch upholds a number of services that provide for the basic needs of senior citizens, as well as social, cultural, and religious programs that promote activity among them. Barry Gurvitch's donations to DOROT largely go toward individuals from the age of 60 and up, and primarily to the Jewish community, though DOROT serves people from a variety of religious and ethnic backgrounds. Barry Gurvitch contributes to Tomchei Shabbos of Queens, an organization that feeds underserved Jews throughout Queens, New York. Tomchei Shabbos has been in operation for more than 25 years, during which time the group's volunteers have distributed food packages on a weekly basis. Always one to offer assistance where he is most needed, Barry Gurvitch sits on the Building Committee of Congregation Beth Sholom. Barry Gurvitch is an active member of the New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH), where he works with professionals in the business of developing and building affordable and low income housing complexes. The efforts of impassioned individuals like Barry Gurvitch and his colleagues at the NYSAFAH led to the lobbying efforts that helped pass the Property Tax Assessment Reform Act in 2005 and secure $13 million in funding from the New York City government for affordable housing projects. Barry Gurvitch received his Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in 1982. Barry Gurvitch went on to own and operate his own business before joining Artimus in 2000 and rising through the ranks at the firm to his present position.
