Ben Ladner built his career on a foundation of academic excellence and perseverance. He earned his Ph.D. from Duke University in 1970, after which he an unusually successful career in higher education.

Prior to that, Ladner received a B.A. degree from Baylor University and a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Southern Seminary. His first academic appointment was as a young assistant professor at the University of North Carolina where he won the prestigious University Teaching Excellence Award while teaching in the philosophy department. This set an early trajectory for his career of outstanding achievement, which has been recognized here and abroad.

Ladner has received honorary doctoral degrees from Tashkent State Economic University in Uzbekistan, Sookmyung University in South Korea, and Elizabethtown University in the U.S.
