Benjamin Wey is the sole proprietor of A1 Construction Consulting, and he truly enjoys working in the construction industry; it has been a lifelong dream of his, since he was a child playing in the dirt with his Tonka trucks and Hot Wheels.  One of his life’s greatest joys has been to watch a building emerge from the plans he designed, and he always knew it would be, from the first time he saw the progress of a construction site when he was in middle school.  Benjamin Wey would pass by the building site everyday on his wey to school, and he was drawn irresistibly to the craft and the mastery of design that he now find visible in every blueprint, every work in progress, and every finished product.  As soon as he was old enough, Benjamin Wey began to apply for apprenticeships with construction companies, and after he graduated from high school, he was accepted to a reputable college in the Bay Area.  Unlike his peers, he knew instantly what he wanted to major in: Civil Engineering.

While studying for his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Benjamin Wey worked for a number of different construction companies, gaining invaluable experience as a supervisor and later as a foreman.  After he graduated with his Master's degree in 1991, Benjamin Wey started working for various construction and design companies, but in 2002, Wey began working for Donofrio Construction, a large company headquartered in southern California and run by his now father-in-law.  After three years as the firm’s construction foreman and San Francisco point man, Benjamin Wey was ready to break out on his own and start his own construction-consulting firm, which he did in 2005, just following the New Year.

Working as his own boss was all Benjamin Wey ever dreamed of doing, and now, he is the primary consultant and chief architect of A1 Construction Consulting, and he loves it.  However, he does not spend all of my time working.  Benjamin Wey still makes plenty of time for his wife, Lorraine, and their three kids.  As a family, they spend a lot of time giving back to the community and supporting local arts programs.  Both Benjamin Wey and his wife are very fond of modern art, and they try to spend at least a portion of their free time every month at art and cultural events.  Their children, however, prefer Wii, and Benjamin Wey ends up playing a few games with them every week.  Wey also enjoys a sporadic round of golf, but his ultimate favorite pastime is travel, and whenever he is taking a trip to a new destination, Benjamin Wey tries to make time for checking out the local architecture and the area’s noteworthy and landmark buildings.  Benjamin Wey loves looking at projects built by other people, especially if they have excellent design or are original.  Enjoy Benjaim Wey’s Ziki!
