What Others Don't Know About Birthday Party Planning

Planning a party, even a birthday party for kids, should not be too hard as long as you stick with the basics. Make sure the guests attend, serve good food and make the theme great.

Send the Invitations

Make your guest list and create invitations based on that list. Planning for the invites will also help you decide how many chairs to rent. Every guest should correspond to one seat. Prepare for when people bring along other guests. Add a few extra chairs and a table or two for this eventuality.

Sending the invitations is a particularly important part of the planning. A party is not a party without the guests. The schedule you select should be in accordance with the schedule of the guests.

Decor

The kids should be able to relate with the decor. Know your fairy tales and the popular cartoon characters at the moment. Something current will do the trick. Toy Story and Cars are great themes.

What to Serve

The menu should be in keeping with the overall theme of the party. You are preparing for kids so make sure they can eat all that you put out. You should not serve raw foods like sushi or spicy food. If you’re planning a party for kids, finger foods work well. Kids love spaghetti but they tend to get messy, so better stick with food that won’t stain much. Drinks can be done with self-service, buffet-style. Set up tables for the kids and also for the adult companions. Consider the time of the day for serving food when you plan your menu. A big meal should have carbo, proteins and sweets. You can be more relaxed if you’re serving snacks. Sweets are great for dessert, but not as main courses. Ice cream in particular should not sit on the table melting.
