Dr. Ming-Wei Wu has developed a number of practice areas during his career, including general surgery, bariatrics, and wound care. A 1999 graduate of Western University of Health Sciences with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Ming-Wei Wu focused his early postgraduate years on honing his skills in general and bariatric surgery. He completed a general surgery residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in New York and a laparoscopic and bariatric surgery fellowship at Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Pennsylvania. Upon concluding his training, Dr. Wu launched his career in Las Vegas, performing procedures at the Surgical Weight Control Center and through his solo practice. During that period, he also published an analysis of more than 400 patients who had undergone minimally-invasive gastric bypass surgery.
Dr. Wu subsequently broadened his focus, adding wound treatment and management to his range of services. Today, he leads a private practice based in Las Vegas, where his specialties include general surgery, gastrointestinal screening, and weight loss treatment as well as wound care. Additionally, he teaches at Touro University, fulfilling the role of associate clinician. His duties there consist of delivering lectures on general surgery and training students in the externship program.
Apart from his practice and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Wu continues to advance his medical knowledge through memberships in professional societies. He belongs to the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association, and the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons. He also strives to give back to the medical and local communities and formerly served as president of the Las Vegas Chinese Medical Association, an organization that has delivered care to underserved individuals of Chinese descent.
