George Bernato

Dr. George R. Bernato is a licensed and certified Psychotherapist currently residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Bernato brings almost three decades of work in psychotherapy to his practice, Eranos Counseling, and he leverages this experience to help patients overcome issues of domestic violence, addiction, anxiety, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sexual abuse, work-related problems, relationship issues, and depression. As a veteran of the United States Military, Dr. George Bernato has a unique perspective on PTSD, and he utilizes some of the methods from his own military training to relate to PTSD sufferers through the Jungian concept of the shared experience. Dr. George R. Bernato chose the name "Eranos" for his psychotherapeutic practice due to the word’s ancient Greek origin in the concept of sharing. "Eranos" in psychotherapy traces its beginnings back to Carl Jung, who used the term in the 1930s to describe a meeting of like-minded individuals that sought a greater understanding of the psyche, culture, and their relationship to the concept of self. Dr. George R. Bernato’s usage of “Eranos” relates to his practice’s deference to Carl Jung’s assertion that psychotherapy should address the issues a client is experiencing as manifestations of a life’s transitional journey. By talking and sharing together, the healing process is facilitated in a safe, effective atmosphere.
