Since the less fortunate do not have any money to fix up their homes, they could have crayon markings on the walls from children, stains, or holes from just about anything. At homes like theirs it may not be a bad idea to have their whole house painted and fixed up. Since they may have nowhere else to go, you may offer to have them stay with you or your campaign office may be a place to go that has food, water, and shelter. This way they would not have to inhale the paint fumes.
You and the other volunteers may have done your share of advertising to the best of your ability. The goal you all have to bring these people into the building that holds your campaign and shelter is to meet with them instead of showing up at their house. It could be frightening for them if you showed up without an explanation.
You can get to know a lot about a painter, and they can get to know a lot about you by finding out which section of your house needs painted. You may want to schedule an appointment with that person and have them look at what you want done, and they will be able to give you an estimate.
The good thing about having a large campaign is that if you are unavailable when they need you over, then you can set them up with someone else that you know who does a good job. The volunteer painter and the family would have to meet each other just like you met them when they first came in. Before you have them meet another painter make sure that painter is available at the time they need their house painted because you do not want to let them down a second time.
You want these people to bring you over to their house to see what kind of work needs to be done. They may request that you do the paint job on the same day as your appointment. These people may feel much safer not having to look at torn down walls and holes all over the place.
Once they are able to take a look at what needs to be painted, they might recommend they paint the whole house but not more money purposes. There could be a lot of different patches that needs to be done all over the house. With a job like that, you would want to stay with a friend until the job is complete. You do not want to be breathing in those paint fumes especially if you have children, the smell could make them very sick.
