I am going to share this post for those who really want to know exactly how to get better at basketball. No matter what your skill level is, there is always room for getting better and improving your game! I highly recommend you read this all the way through (it’s pretty short), and take some notes as you go.

How to Get Better at Basketball by Improving your Conditioning and Attitude

One of the most important thing you can do to get better at basketball is improving the mental and physical aspects of the game. Increasing your speed will greatly improve your game. This can be done by working out and even playing a lot of pick up games with your friends. You should add jogging and sprinting to your workout routine to improve your speed.

Not only is conditioning your legs important for your speed, but your shot as well. If your legs get fatigued, you will be unable to effectively plant your feet and get the proper lift to execute a good shot.

Your mental attitude towards practicing and game play are also important. You need to realize that an off night or a bad practice session is all a part of becoming better. If you fail to realize this you may become discouraged and it will hinder your improvement.

How to Get Better at Basketball - Improving your shot

You can improve your shot by learning the proper shooting technique and practicing that technique extensively.

Here is the basics of the proper technique:

1. Square up your feet before shooting
2. Focus on the back of the rim
3. locate your target quickly (even before you shoot)
4. Keep your elbows in, and follow through
5. Improve your dribbling

This is an area where you can learn how to get better at basketball VERY quickly. Being a good ball handler is essential.

Here are some things your need to remember:

Develop your weak hand

It is important to train both of your hands to dribble the ball. At the beginning, practice equally with both hands. Next, start practicing twice as much with your weaker hand. Practice dribble the ball low.

Don’t look down at your feet or ball

Always keep your head up when dribbling the ball. You have to be able to see the court and where your teammates are at all times. Failing to do this will only lead to sloppy play and bad habits.

Protect the Basketball

Never face the defender when dribbling the basket ball. Always dribble with the opposite hand of where the defenders are. For example, if you are driving to the right, dribble with your right hand. Driving to the left? Dribble with your left hand. You can use the other arm as an arm bar. This will make it much harder to turn the ball over to the defender. They will have to reach all the way across your body to get the steal.

Advance the ball with angles

If there is a defender in front of you when dribbling the basketball down the court- Drive at a 45 degree angle. If you are still feeling pressure, drive at another 45 degree angle in a different direction.

This article was originally published on how to get better at basketball fast
