A respected Clinical Psychologist at the Mountain Home Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tennessee, Dr. John S. Auerbach has researched, written, and lectured on a variety of subjects in his discipline. Auerbach has contributed many articles to professional journals and handbooks and reviewed books on clinical psychology since 1984. Dr. John S. Previously serving as the Coordinator of the Post-Traumatic Stress Program at the Mountain Home Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Dr. John S. Auerbach has lectured and presented papers on PTSD to both health care professionals and the public. Auerbach has published articles and chapters on narcissism, borderline disorders, psychological testing, psychotherapeutic change, intersubjectivity theory, mentalization, and the Object Relations Inventory. His most important papers include "The origins of narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder: A theoretical and empirical reformulation," "Changes in self and object representations in long-term intensive individual treatment of seriously disturbed adolescents and young adults," "Self-representation in severe psychopathology: The role of reflexive self-awareness," "Mental representations in personality development, psychopathology, and the therapeutic process," "Mental representation, severe psychopathology, and the therapeutic process: Affect and self-reflexivity in borderline and schizophrenic patients," "Self-reflexivity, intersubjectivity, and therapeutic change," "The concept of mind: A developmental analysis," "Evaluating efficacy, effectiveness, and mutative factors in psychodynamic psychotherapies," "Changes in the representation of self and significant others in the treatment process: Links between representation, internalization, and mentalization," and "The therapeutic relationship as a mediator and moderator of sustained therapeutic change." In 1988, Dr. John S. Auerbach received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He works in a private practice in Johnson City, Tennessee, where he also serves as a Professor at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. Dr. John S. Auerbach holds membership in numerous professional organizations, including the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, American Psychoanalytic Association, and Appalachian Psychoanalytic Society.
