Home Renovation From the Flooring to the Roof

When cutting the roof away, start at the ridgeboard and run the saw between the rafters all the way to the rafter tails. Repeat this cut every 32" in one end of the roof on the other. These pieces, assuming they can be plywood, can be deleted in 32"x 48" squares. There will still be some weight to these pieces but this can make them more managable. Working from the ridge, these squares are loosened with a sledgehammer. Once there is enough room, you can use a prybar to free them in the rafters. My favorite technique is to use a 6 to 8 base 2x4. Slip it below the loosened piece and use an adjacent

rafter as a fulcrum. Push down in the 2x4 and up comes the plywood and shingles. This same procedure works with trusses also.

If the roof sheathing is cedar plank, the cuts should be made 48" to 64"apart. If there are 2 or mre levels of shingles, you are able to roll these sections down the rafters.

In the event the roof sheathing is taken off, the rest of the components canbe removed. In the event the soffit and fascia haven't been removed yet, thisis another opportunity to accomplish this. Once that is gone the rafters may be removed. The rafters can end up detached from the ridgeboard by using a sledgehammer or a sawzall. After they are loose from the ridge, they can be twisted off the top plate.

Trusses is a little trickier. After your sheathing is removed, most of the truss work will have to be cut out. The only part left would be your bottom cord that stands up the drywall ceiling. Since these cords are 2x4's, larger 2x lumber should be sistered alongside for added support. As long as there are bearing walls below, this 2x lumber may be 2x10's, 2x12's or engineered lumber including I-joists.

Before opening your evaporative air conditioner, be sure to turn off all electrical supplies and water supplies to your unit. The easiest way to accomplish this is to turn off the entire power to your home along with the water. Make sure that the laws in your country let you do this otherwise you have got to call in a specialized. Also be sure to turn off the water supply for your evaporative air conditioner too.

Most evaporative ac units are built so they can come apart fairly easily. Most units will have a set of clips on top of the unit. Once these clips are removed the top of the air conditioner should easily pull off without necessity for any tools. Once it's done, simply remove this pads and replace using new ones. Re-attach the the top air conditioner and you are done.

Don't forget to place the old pads within a bag and dispose of properly. Re-start the power together with water and test to find the air conditioner is usually running effectively.

As you can see, changing the pads is a relatively simple procedure. Nevertheless, there are dangers involved so unless you feel capable please require a professional.
