1- C’est reparti pour un tour avec Christophe Willem! Est-ce que cette tournée sera différente et quelle sera ta place?

Oui, c’est reparti pour 5 mois… Est-ce que ce sera différent, oh que oui, et le mot est faible ! Entre la tournée« Inventaire » et le « Coffee Tour », j’ai vu un chanteur s’accomplir.
La barre était déjà bien haut placée ! Mais là, c’est du très, très lourd. Depuis le réarrangement des chansons par Steve Anderson (les arrangements du X Tour de Kylie, c’est lui), jusqu’aux vidéos dans l’écran, en passant par le stylisme, la mise en scène…
Tout est fait pour que le public passe par un yoyo émotionnel intense.
Je ne sais pas si j’ai vu ça en France…ce show est hors frontière.
Et puis les musiciens Anglais adorables et hyper professionnels, les choristes complètement atypiques, du haut niveau là aussi… C’est énorme, je suis hyper fière de faire partie de cette tournée. Cette année, je ne suis plus guitariste/choriste. Je fais la première partie du show, et je chante « Trash » en duo avec Christophe Willem (notre duo sur son album « Caféine »). Je vais pouvoir admirer une partie du spectacle dans la salle…

2- Tu as prêté ta plume sur le dernier album de Christophe Willem, de quelle chanson es-tu la plus fière?

Mon Dieu… euh… il y a une dizaine de titres et, vraiment, des souvenirs forts se rattachent à chaque chanson ! Mon cœur balance en triangle, il y a « Entre nous et le sol » que j’ai co-écrit avec Christophe, il voulait du « mystico-sensuel », je crois que c’est réussi.
On a fini ce texte à 4h du matin face à la mer, à Papeete. Magique.
Il y a « Berlin », très théâtral, limite décadent, j’aime beaucoup.
Et puis « Si je tombais ». J’étais très émue par la chanson, et je voulais un texte très « heure de vérité , c’est maintenant que tout se joue ». Je voulais que Christophe soit ému lui-même en la chantant.
Je crois savoir qu’il aime aussi beaucoup ce texte. Je vais dire « Si je tombais » .

3- As-tu d’autres artistes en tête avec qui tu souhaites collaborer?

Oui je te confirme ! On va y aller franchement, si l’univers m’entend, je verrais bien mon téléphone sonner, décrocher et entendre un fort accent Américain… Madonna.
J’adorerais collaborer une fois dans ma vie avec Paul Mc Cartney. Annie Lennox aussi, quelle Déesse…Vanessa Paradis, dont j’étais et reste fan. Tricky, oh la la…
Autrement, parmi les gens que j’ai rencontré à Londres lors de l’enregistrement de l’album de Christophe, « Caféine », j’ai complètement craqué sur un compositeur arrangeur, Pete Martin, avec qui je ne désespère pas travailler un jour, on a été en contact pour parler de ça, déjà.
Steve Anderson, si tu as besoin de chœurs, de guitare, ce que tu veux, je suis là.
Sinon, récemment, j’ai eu la très belle surprise de rencontrer Tigane, un chanteur que je trouve très atypique dans l’univers musical Français, qui semble être une très belle personne. Il est question que nous tentions de travailler ensemble.
J’ai déjà quelques pistes, j’espère vraiment que cela va se concrétiser par une belle collaboration.

4- Organique ou numérique, la musique évolue d’une manière générale, et la tienne?

La mienne, elle se désinhibe ! Il y a quelques années, après avoir fait de la pop rock en duo, J’ai opéré un virage vers la folk, style musical et d’écriture que j’adore, assez codée en vérité, passionnant. Mais une des raisons pour lesquelles j’ai visité ce genre musical, était que j’étais seule, avec ma voix et ma guitare. Je me suis un peu interdit de m’essayer à d’autres styles, que j’aime à la folie, qui me rendent dingue. Je me disais que je n’avais pas l’étoffe. Je veux parler d’atmosphère très Hip Hop, je ne vais pas rapper, mais des ambiances à la « Slum Village », ou à la « The Roots », me tournent la tête. Je suis en transe quand j’écoute certains sons de Pharrell Williams. Basement Jaxx, ça me fait vriller… Et il était temps que ma musique soit colorée et ait le goût de ces atmosphère là, sexy au possible.
Il y a toujours la guitare, comme élément rythmique séquencé, un son assez sale, très organique, acoustique.Et je mélange cela à un mélange de sons acoustiques (bruits de thorax, soupirs rythmiques, cuillères sur un bol etc), et de sons très synthétiques.
C’est la première fois que je me sens réellement en phase avec ma musique. Je suis heureuse de ça.

5- Quels sont tes rêves/projets pour cette année?

Je rêve éveillée de pouvoir faire tous les arrangements de chaque titre de mon prochain album, et que cet album soit un pur moment de liberté, d’ivresse, de joie et de sensualité pour ceux qui l’écoutent.
Je rêve de pouvoir aller chanter au Canada, à New York, à Londres, de voyager avec et grâce à la musique.
Mes projets sont simples si je me donne la peine de lâcher prise et d’y croire sans complexe : travailler avec une foule d’artistes, dont Christophe s’il en a l’envie, être heureuse à la moindre étincelle, composer un album en Anglais et m’exporter, pour qu’enfin je puisse vérifier que la musique est universelle…

6- Nous ferais-tu l’honneur de nous jouer un extrait inédit?

Laisse moi quelques semaines et je te fais ça !

7- Une rime en “outre”?

Gauffre. Ah pardon, trop de Lettres…

8- Peux-tu résumer en un seul mot ce que représente la musique pour toi?

Liberté.

9- Entre tous tes souvenirs de scènes et rencontres musicales, quel est ton instant vécu le plus précieux ?

Je ne sais plus quand c’était, en 2009 en tous cas, pendant ma tournée « All My Tears », un concert avec uniquement des reprises. Je termine le concert, et puis il y a un rappel. Et moi qui était spécialement fatiguée pendant ce concert, je reviens, et toute la fatigue s’en va, je me sentais capable de tout, légère, insouciante, et je chante « Overseas Telegram » de Serge Gainsbourg. Et là, je me sens mais alors transportée, euphorique ! Et à cet instant là, hors de question de me demander pourquoi je fais ce boulot, c’est juste évident ! je suis là parce que c’est ma place, pas parce que je suis meilleure qu’un autre, ou plus ceci ou moins cela. Mais juste parce que je suis à ma place.
Et ce moment là, il est super précieux… j’essaie de me souvenir de ça, quand je me pose le genre de question inutile qui pollue.

Here are a few words, as an…

1- Hi Hayley, how are you?

I am great! Just got back from a spontaneous roadtrip up the coast of western australia. Found some amazing surf breaks way off in the middle of nowhere. Brought a guitar as well and got in some quality time doing absolutely nothing but watching waves and playing music. Pretty amazing. Also getting really excited for the release of the new abum, When the Bird became a Book! It comes out in Japan in about a month and then Canada a little bit later.

2- First of all, let’s get us to know you as simple as it can be! Where are you from?

Where am I from? That’s a good question. I’ve been a bit of a nomad my entire life. Originally, I was born in Washington D.C. When I was 3 my family packed our life into a van and headed across the country, no destination planned. We wound up in Portland OR. Lived there till I was 16 then moved up to Vancouver Island Canada where my parents bought an organic blueberry farm. That has been home base for the last 7 years although I lived in LA for a while, and have been pretty much living out of my bag traveling most of the time. I’m now spending a great deal of time in Australia w/ my boyfriend who is an aussie.

3- What are your favorite dishes and drinks?

What food I like really changes quite a bit. I like to try new things, as much as possible. But you can never go wrong with sushi or Indian. And really, nothing is better than a massive fresh salad from veggies grown in the garden. I love when I can make myself a meal entirely out of food that I have grown and not bought from the store. I am also relatively addicted to popcorn.

As far as drinks go, I love teas. Chai, green tea, roobios tea.
And when it gets to drinking, like actual drinking, I usually stick with beer or wine, although I have to admit, I wouldn’t know the difference between a 100 dollar bottle and 10 dollar one.

4- Do you watch TV shows or movies? what are your favorite ones?

We’ve never actually had tv in my house. I had the most embarassing experience once. I am an actor as well as a musician and one day, I was in LA at this really big audition. I did my scene and they said they liked it but asked whether I could play it more like I was in a sitcom. I realized, I had never seen a sitcom and had absolutely no idea what they meant. I made it a point after that to try an watch tv at least every now and then.
I really like Flight of the Conchords and quite a few british comedy shows. You can never go wrong with Faulty Towers or Black Books.
As far as movies go, I love watching pretty much every genre of movie. I like watching the classics and studying the stories and the characters, and the actors techniques. But also get a kick out of ridiculous comedies and action flicks.

5- What are you listening to these days?

Maybe I should just list a couple for you. These are the artist most often on repeat on my ipod: Mumford &Sons, Angus and Julia Stone, The John Butler Trio, The Temper Trap, Empire of the Sun,

6- How was your latest road trip around Australia? favorite places?

The roadtrip was amazing. Gnaraloo bay was definitely my favorite place but everything turn in the road (which actually didn’t happen for 100s of kms sometimes) blew me away. I loved driving and watching how the environment shifted as we went from the desert to the coast… But most of all, I loved being in the water and under the water. Tombstones, a surf break near Gnaraloo, was fantastic.

7- Back a few years ago, how was it to sing with Jason Mraz (especially on “lucky”)?

Jason was one of the nicest, funniest people I have ever met or worked with. There was never a dull moment in the van traveling between shows. He always had my friend and I in stitches laughing. Actually, his whole band was amazing. All really nice, really talented guys. I sang “Lucky” with him on the mainstage at the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival watching the crowd just flip out was extremely exhilerating.

I wish I hadn’t been sick for most of the tour, but that happens sometimes when your on the road for a long time. You just have to deal with it and kind of forget about the fact that you are sick.

Whenever I wasn’t on stage, I would go out into the audience and dance around to his music. I always do that when I am touring with another artist. I love getting into the crowd and disappearing.

8- I’ve listened to a couple of new songs you’ve done lately and I really like “Anything goes”, what is it about?

Anything goes is an extremely personal song. The lyrics are simple and straight forward. I guess you could say its about really loving someone and being a bit annoyed with yourself that you are messing it up by overthinking things and not trusting them. I definitely overthink things, especially in relationships. I wrote the song so that I could explain to my boyfriend what i was feeling and thinking seeing as I am absolutely HORRIBLE at communicating unless I write it in a song. That’s actually what the first verse is about -”I don’t know how to say, what I say perfectly in my mind.” Deep down, the song is realization of my own vulnerability.

9- Will you release a new album soon?

Yes! Its going to be released this summer in Canada and Japan and throughout the rest of the world over the next year.

10- How do you proceed when you want to write a song? do you begin with a melody or words? And what subjects inspire you the most?

Everytime I write a song, the process is different. But I can say, you cannot force a song. I do feel like every song is a gift when it comes. Usually the song begins with a melody and a guitar part and then the words rise into the different notes that I am singing. Writing a song is like putting together the peices of an invisible puzzle, or solving an equation that has no right or wrong answer.

As far as which subjects I gather most of my inspiration from, it really varies depending on where I am in my life and what I am experiencing. I write quite a bit about desires to explore the world, and about self-discovery because that’s where I am in my life. I would love nothing more than to be on the road getting lost in different exotic places of the world. But on the other hand, I am very conscious of the environmental crisis we are in at the moment and a great deal of my songs and ideas sprout out of a desire to spread awareness of these issues.

And of course, love. Who doesn’t write about love?

Really, I just write about what I am seeing in the world around me, in the people that I know, and the things that I am trying to understand inside myself.

11- What’s your favorite song to sing on stage?

I love singing Keep Drivin, because the audience gets involved. Also love to play the ukulele songs I have been writing. There is just no way to be unhappy when you’ve got a ukulele in your hand and I love watching the audience start smiling when I pick it up.

12- What do you think about the evolution of our music world now? I mean, listeners seem to be connected to artists more like before thanks to social networks like Twitter or Facebook…Do you think it’s a big change and do you see pros and cons?

I think actually this shift is incredibly good. Its a bit scary in that we have no idea where the music industry is going now, but its giving artists and musicians a chance to get their music out there and to really connect with fans all over the world. Its not based on a record company anymore. Its a big change however. Its definitely changing what makes an artists successful.
I think we will be seeing less and less of the cookie cutter pop artists and a resurfacing of true, genuine artists who can actually sing and whose songs are powerful and honest to the human experience. That’s exciting. Everybody is trying to figure out where the music world will go from here, but I am really trying to focus on the music. I think music is the glue that’s going to hold it all together even if everything falls apart. The world will always need music.

13- What are your plans for the upcoming months?

For the next couple months, I am pretty sure I’ll spend most of my time promoting the new album. That entails interviews, traveling, performing, touring. I’ll most likely be on the road constantly for the next couple of years. I’m actually really excited about that.
I am also hoping to get involved more deeply in several organizations associated with preserving the oceans. I recently traveled down to Monterey Bay Peninsula and met with a marine biologist there at MBARI. I plan to go back down and do some field work with her whenever I have spare time.
I am also going to continue taking university courses online. I’m taking a course on Environmental Science and another on Shakeapeare.
And somewhere in between all that, I am hoping to get better at playing slide guitar

14- Any chance to see you in Europe soon?
I really hope so! I love touring Europe. I was there a year or so ago with Gavin DeGraw. The audiences were amazing. Some places, when you tour, its almost like you have to prove yourself worthy before the audience likes you. I never felt that in europe. Everyone just loved music and loved having a good time listening. I’d really like to get to France and Italy this time around. I didn’t get there on my last tour.

15- Do you want to leave a message for CTNmusic readers?
I always try to leave a message that is relevant to what I am trying to learn myself. Recently, I’ve been really trying to figure out how to live as fully as I can and not let fear tie stones around my feet. I’ve come to realize, you have to make what you do in your life not about yourself but about others. That is the only way to truly be happy. When you lose yourself into selflessness, there is no way to be depressed, fearful, or unhappy. And happiness is, in the end, what we are all going for, right?

The best things in life happen spontaneously. Nina Ebbenhout and Caroline Ouwendijk met each other in a tram in Amsterdam. As it turned out they were both on their way to the same singer/songwriter competition. Small talk led to something greater. In the months following, Nina (classical pianist and graduate of the Utrecht Conservatory) and Caroline (graduate in political science and law) discovered what they contributed to each others songs: magic.

The talent of the two girls was quickly recognized by various professionals in the music industry. But it was the great musical connection with producer Roeland Jacobs that eventually gave the girls the opportunity to record their debut album Simple Peace of Mind. With the string section of the Metropolitan Orchestra and the help of mixer Ulf W. Holand (Maria Mena and A-ha) they recorded twelve original tracks. Beautifully subdued songs: romantic but with both feet on the ground, pure but not innocent. Straight from the heart and right back in.

In the summer of 2009, Vonder & Bloom travelled around the Netherlands in mini van which they transformed into a living room. It allowed them to give free mini concerts everywhere, winning the hearts and ears of those whom dared to sit down and listen.

On 01/02/2010, Vonder & Bloom signed a record deal with PIAS Netherlands. Their debut album Simple Peace of Mind was released on March 29th, 2010.

1-  Hi Beth! How are you?

I’m doing great.  It’s sunny and 70 here in Los Angeles today.

2- First of all, where do you come from and where’s home?

I like these easy questions!  I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama.  Now I live in Los Angeles.

3- What are your favorite dishes & drinks?

Hmmm….not quite as easy but still a fun question!  I like french fries, mexican food, italian food, french food, martinis, coffee, chocolate and ice cream .

4- How about movies or TV shows? which ones are your favorites?

The questions are getting harder now! J  It’s difficult for me to pick favorites sometimes because there are so many good things out there.  I like Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, Project Runway, Meet The Press, 24 and Judge Judy.

5- How about reading? any good recommendation?

Right now I’m reading a book that I think is great.  It’s “The Epicure’s Lament” by Kate Christensen.

6- What are you listening these days? what’s on the top list?

Sara Watkins’ “Sara Watkins”, Laura Jansen’s “Bells”, Lucinda Williams’ “Little Honey”, Michael Miller’s “I Made You Up”, and “Broken Bells” which is a project from Danger Mouse and the guy from The Shins.

7- Do you go to gigs to see other artists sometimes?

Yes!  I especially go to Hotel Café and hear people play.  Recently I’ve heard some great shows by Cary Brothers (new album out soon), Holly Conlan (her album “Fascinator” is great), Lindsey Ray (love her EP).

8- What do you do to feed your imagination? I mean, how do you proceed when you want to write songs?

I read books and/or watch movies and generally observe life.

9- I’ve listened to your new album called “Wash U clean” and I really like the song called “Everyone falls” so much! What’s the story about it?

It’s about how life is hard for all of us and, even though I don’t say it in the song, because we all share that human condition, I hope we can give each other some space and room and understanding.

10- You played the “Hotel café” (such as our common good friend Laura Jansen and many others).  What was the audience response? How does it feel to play in such a place?

I love playing at Hotel Café because the people who attend shows there have come to listen.   When I play rooms like Hotel Cafe with an audience that’s there to listen and discover new music, the response is usually very positive.  When I play rooms that are noisier, sometimes the lyrics get lost in all the talking and bar noise.  Louder “jam bands” tend to do better in those kinds of rooms (although we can rock pretty hard when necessary).

11- Back on your previous albums. Which song do you feel the most involved in and why?

If I understand the question correctly, I think you might be asking which song is the most personal to me?  I guess I’d have to say “Bones” but I can’t go into the meaning of it because it’s too personal.

12- What do you think about the music world these days? What’s better for an artist: to be totally independent or signed under majors?

It depends on what the artist wants.  There are pros and cons to both sides.  I like being independent because there’s a lot of freedom in it, but I also realize that without the backing of a major label, my road will be longer and slower.

13- What are your plans for the upcoming months?

Write new songs and record them and hopefully post a 5 song digital EP soon.

14- Any chance to see you in Europe one day?

I hope so!  I would love that.

Charity Joy Daw, born in Miami with cuban ancestry and recently transplanted in Nashville was raised in a musical home and used to write songs as long as she can remember. Charity is no stranger to the entertainment industry as she was exposed on Miami’s American Idol in 2006.

In 2007, Charity Daw licensed her album entitled, JUVENILIA to Bunin/Murray Production, the creators of the popular reality series, “The Real World”. The music from JUVENILIA aired on Oxygen Network’s highly rated reality show, “Bad Girls Club” and MTV’s “The Real World Denver”.

JUVENILIA reveals a singer/songwriter beyond her twenty years.  The project started out as a two song demo that Charity began in her living room at sixteen. Long time friend and much-loved singer-songwriter Allison Crowe is releasing her seventh album today, SPIRAL, her most highly anticipated album to date and maybe the most exciting album to be released this year.

Produced and recorded on her own record label Rubenesque Records, Allison was joined by a plethora of amazing artists and musicans: Fleet Foxes, Fyfe Dangerfield, Girls Aloud, Goldfrapp, Gorillaz, Joanna Newsom, Marina and the Diamonds, Massive Attack, MGMT, Music Go Music, She and Him, Billie Rocha-Woods (acoustic guitar, backing vocals), Dave Baird (bass, backing vocals), Laurent Boucher (percussion), Brendan Millbank (cello) and Larry Anschell (electric guitar, and, also, Engineer/Producer at Turtle Studios in White Rock, B.C.)

SPIRAL contains eight of Crowe’s original piano-based and acoustic guitar songs, ranging from the tender and playful country/roots of “Dearly”, to the upbeat pop of “Double-Edged Swords”, ’cross the loving “Oceans”, and darker terrain of “I Don’t Know” and the hard rocking title track. Raw, natural, emotion is embraced passionately with elegiac beauty and melody in these, and such joy-filled tunes as “Going Home Tonight” and “No Matter the Battle”. With the live track, “Wake Up”, Crowe, again, renders the personal universal, and the global, human. The album includes also a trio of fresh covers – revisiting music of Annie Lennox (“Why”), Leonard Cohen (“Chelsea Hotel No. 2”), and Hunters and Collectors’ Antipodean anthem, “Throw Your Arms Around Me”.

The visual art of Spiral matches its aural beauty – with cover paintings by Netherlands-based Tara Thelen, photographs by Canada’s Billie Rocha-Woods, and California’s Dan Goldwasser, fontage from Brazil’s Billy Argel and graphic design by Florida’s Alix Whitmire.

Allison Crowe’s music is that feast where, says the poet Rimbaud, “all hearts open and all wines flow.” Known as one of the most exciting Canadian songwriters of her generation, Allison Crowe has made one of the finest album ever!

I discovered Kinnie Starr when her songs was featured on the TV show THE L WORLD, maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Alida Kinnie Starr has some Mohawk blood and is a true Canadian to the core, she is also one of Canada’s most adored and critically acclaimed underground musicians, and one of my favorite Canadian artist too by the way. Her music was also featured in Catherine Hardwicke’s movie, “Thirteen”.

Nominated for a Juno as “Best New Artist” in 2003, Kinnie Starr emerged in 1996 from a background of visual arts and a degree in Women’s Studies from Queen’s University. 3 years later, she originally signed to Mercury/Island/DefJam after a massive bidding war. Even Clive Davis flew out to personally dine her in Vancouver in an attempt to bring the young artist into his roster of pop stars! Starr politely declined and has since enjoyed slow building working relationships with Lakeshore Records USA, Maple Music Canada, and Maple Music’s flagship 2006 label, Fontana USA. A prolific writer, Starr is currently signed to a prestigious publishing deal with Ole Publishing.

Starr has worked with industry heavy hitters Wendy and Lisa (Prince), David Campbell (Beck’s father), Carmen Rizzo (Alanis Morisette), Chris Bruce and Earl Harvin (Seal, The The), Tegan and Sara, and Nelly Furtado. Furtado acknowledges Starr as one of her key influences.

Today, the tri-lingual Starr is set to release her fifth album, A DIFFERENT DAY, through Last Gang Labels (Metric, Death Cab for Cutie) and is produced by Chin Injeti. A DIFFERENT DAY is a focused collection of optimistic head-nodding songs exclusively about love. And for the first time Kinnie Starr leaves the hip hop/rock style for a collection of intimate and acoustic songs, delivering her raw and sexy voice singing platonic love, broken love, and love uncovered. Human relationships are at the center of her gaze for this 5th album. Often pegged for her fierce intelligence and ability as a rapper, “A Different Day” turns the page now onto Starr’s chanteuse-like grace. Bored of the bravado and posturing that goes hand in hand with hip hop, she delves into her love of songwriting with tenderly paced phrasing, electric and acoustic guitars, and soaring melodies evocative of originals like Neil Young, Tom Petty, Cat Power and Sade.

As promised last week with the first video, here’s the following one right away!!

This time she gave us the most beautiful she wrote to an another artist to my ears, it’s called “Safe and Sound” and you can listen to it on Nolwenn Leroy latest album called “The Cheshire Cat et Moi”.

She wrote also “Me and You” and co-wrote “Aucune Idée” also available on this album.

It was a big joy to hear this special song, first because it’s unique; then because through her, it meant something much more different, I don’t know how to explain.

If you can, just buy the album version before listening to Jonatha’s version, you’ll appreciate it in a different way.

Oh Land is the scene name of 23 years old Copenhagen based artist Nanna Øland Fabricius. Her debut album, FAUNA, has been released in Denmark through indie Fake Diamond Records in 2008. So it’s not very new, but I meet the girl on Twitter and found her music and her universe very interesting and original, mostly experimental with some electronical inspirations taken from Portishead, Björk and some of this musical genre.

On FAUNA, Oh Land worked with the amazing componist Davide Rossi (Brian Eno, The Verve, Goldfrapp, Coldplay), she also made her own beats, played piano, guitar and violin and sampled everything from pots and pans to buzzing flies and her own voice.

The last time you heard something from Seattle singer/songwriter Shannon Stephens, it may have been with Sufjan Steven’s old band Marzuki, which she was the lead singer. Before that, it would have been near a decade since her 2000 self-titled debut. Wait no longer, her new and sophomore album, THE BREADWINNER, will be released on the label Stevens co-founded, Asthmatic Kitty Records on September 8.

After recording that first solo album, Shannon Stephens moved from Holland, Mich., to Seattle, and started a family. Aside from playing occasionally with folks like Denison Witmer and Damien Jurado and recording an unreleased EP of old hymns with Rosie Thomas, Stephens took a break from music, going seven years without playing her songs in front of an audience. Then, last year, right as Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s latest album featured a cover of Stephens’ “I’ll Be Glad,” she began working on THE BREADWINNER in her living room.

“This second album was a real effort,” she says in a recent statement. “We have a child now and bills to pay—but I think those pressures may have actually made it better.”

Stephens wrote all the songs except for closer “Seems I’m Never Tired Lovin’ You” by Aretha’s sister Carolyn Franklin. Her vocals and guitar are at the center of each song, but the album also features Nathan Smurthwaite (The Marrying Type, The Abodox) on guitars, Steve Moore on trombone, Edd Key (Spittin’ Image) on stand up bass, James McAlister (Sufjan Stevens, Richard Swift, Ester Drang) on drums, and Phil Peterson (Nada Surf, Mastodon, Chronicles of Narnia Soundtrack) on cello. Hilary, one of Shannon’s three hens, adds some clucking on “Hard Times Are Coming.“

Having heard it, we can tell you that it sounds comfortable and daring at the same time, kind of like one of those late hour over-coffee conversations with a close friend. Shannon is a singer-songwriter in the good kind of classic sense, and the production is just fantastic all over. We think most of you and yours will really enjoy the album.

Kate miller-heidke is another one of the rising stars in the australian music scene like Sandrine Daniels, Lenka, etc… . Her debut album LITTLE EVE debuted at #11 on the aria chart in june 2006 and has achieved gold status. Kate was nominated for 5 aria awards in 2007 including best female artist. Her new album CURIOUSER was recorded in los angeles with producer mickey petralia (flight of the conchords, beck, ladytron).

Kate has an absolute and delight voice, every song on CURIOUSER is gorgeous, Some of the songs speak to Kate’s folksy roots (”Our Song” and “Caught in the Crowd” especially feel ‘older’ than the rest of the album), and some speak to a combination of pop and new wave (”Can’t Shake It“, “Motorscooter“, everything in this album is quite fantastic.

A really good friend wrote me through Facebook today and told me this:

“I really wish you for you to check out this singer. Apparently she is from Dublin of all places!! Her name is Cathi Bruns and I am just loving her right now. You can listen to her music on myspace at  or on Amie Street if you wish to purchase her music. First song I heard was Inner Radio. But everything is incredible. Absolutely beautiful!! Downloaded it last night and listened a good 7-8 times already! A new favorite artist. First time I heard it, I thought of you and I was like “Wow, I think Jessy would really love her”.
