In academia, Dr. Kevin Hinshaw taught courses at St. Louis University Anheuser-Busch Eye Institute as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. He previously served as a Clinical Instructor at the University of Illinois. Dr. Kevin Hinshaw is a past President of the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He currently remains active with the organization as Regional Director and Board member. Dr. Hinshaw is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, and a member of organizations including the St. Louis Ophthalmologic Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Missouri State Medical Society.

Educated at St. Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Kevin Hinshaw completed his Doctor of Medicine in 1988. He went on to complete residency training in Ophthalmology at the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois.

Possessing 15 years of experience in ophthalmology, Dr. Kevin Hinshaw has balanced his career as a teacher and physician in the field. Prior to his career as an ophthalmologist, Dr. Kevin Hinshaw worked as a performing musician and taught classical guitar. He graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music in 1979. Pursuing an interest in medicine, he took pre-medicine courses at California State University, Hayward. In 1988, Dr. Kevin Hinshaw graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He joined the United States Naval Reserve while pursuing his medical degree. Earning his Doctor of Medicine in 1988 from St. Louis University School of Medicine, he completed his internship at St John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, and his ophthalmology residency at The University of Chicago and the prestigious University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Dr. Hinshaw served as an active duty Naval Officer as the Staff Senior Ophthalmologist at the Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He held the position of Acting Department Head from 1994 to 1995. Dr. Hinshaw left the US Naval Reserve after 13 years in 1996 with an honorable discharge and the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
