Me, Melodiefabriek My name is Marco Raaphorst. In March 2003 I started Melodiefabriek, a company build around my work as a Composer, a Sound Designer and a weblogger.
Me, the music composer I have composed many songs/tracks in my life. I write new material almost daily. The source seems to be unlimited.
Many people love my music and I feel blessed by that. People are promoting my work by sharing it with others. Some people use my music for their podcast shows. This happens to me 2 or 3 times a week, lately.
Companies are buying licenses for commercial use. Sometimes I compose specific music for specific clients. Contact between me and The Client is simple and direct. No high overhead-costs are created. And they always love the result; the final music!
And yes, I work for some big names.
Me, the sound mangler * I am also a sound mangler; a Sound Designer. Someone who creates sound or changes it.
If you are a musician yourself you might have heard about me because I now have a 5 year friendly relationship with the excellent music-software creators of Propellerhead Software. For their Reason software I created many sounds.
I programmed over 180 patches for Reason 3 and licensed samples and sample-loops for lifetime use in Reason. And yes, my friends at Propellerhead do pay me for this kind of work. It is serious work, it needs time, practice and devotion. You need to understand sound. It needs a Zen-like focus.
Together with the Hugarian sample-guru Andras Haasz of PinkNoise Studio and Eric Corminier from France I am running ReasonBanks.com. Both of these guys were also involved in the sound design project for Reason 3. We create high quality additional sounds for Propellerhead Reason. Even Herbie Hancock likes our work and we are very, very proud about that!
Me, the weblogger* I started with weblogging in 2000. That was under the Raapie moniker, my nickname.
Today the technology is changing quickly, daily. It will make us rethink about the way we look at issues like copyright, file-sharing, open standards and the blurry line between commercial and non-commercial work. Things are changing quicker than ever before. But change can be fun, right? Change is an essential part of life.
I do believe we’re still at the beginning of a big evolution caused by the Internet. It affects us all in our daily lifes. It also has a strong influence on us musicians, sound designers and all the commons of our culture.
My music and my sounds are reused in other people’s music. This is good, this is what we call ‘remix-culture’ and I believe in it!
I also like to share my ideas about these kind of things, since they are highly related to my work and are affecting it in a good way. MP3, DRM and copyright are popular keywords, you know?
