Monica Nelson believes volunteering in one's community is a critical aspect of being a conscientious citizen. While volunteerism may not always be convenient or easy, as Monica says, "The right thing to do is usually the hardest," she does the "right thing" every time she volunteers for one of the several charities in which she is active. Monica Nelson assists battered women, who have escaped their abusive home lives, at the Sojourner Truth House. Monica Nelson also tutors adult students in mathematics for the Milwaukee Achiever Program. In addition, Monica is a member of Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Disaster Action Team, a disaster-preparedness group that provides immediate assistance to those affected by a disaster in their area. Monica Nelson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Marquette University. In her free time, Monica Nelson enjoys gardening, cooking, hiking, and lace-making. Monica also plays a number of sports, including tennis and baseball near where she lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
