There are a lot of benefits that a high mast lighting pole has. Some of the benefits are large area lighting, fast and safe lighting fixture maintenance at ground level, fewer poles needed to be installed in order to cover the intended areas. With average height ranging from 12 meters to 40 meters, one single pole can spread the artificial light to a wider area than conventional lighting structures. The applications for high mast structures vary from street lighting, sport lighting, to traffic lighting, etc. These lighting poles are typically 12 meters to 40 meters high in order to distribute light to the areas they are expected to.

Because of such heights, they constantly face strong winds which easily knock them down. However, these lighting poles are manufactured robust in order to stand stable and durable in any harsh environmental conditions. Lighting poles used inside stadiums and during any sport games often needed to be very tall in order to meet the clearance requirements. In these situations, the marketing agencies might have to pay for more robust street lighting columns so that advertisement panels can be hung on the poles. It is a single tube structure which does not take up too much public space and its slim design is often considered as less obtrusive and pleasing to the eyes like normal high mast lighting poles. As a result, all lighting poles are now required to be passively safe in order to reduce the damages caused to the passengers during the impact.

However, using a lift truck will take up a lot of public space to set up the work station. This kind of work station, however, is not at all safe because there is still the possibility that the platform might collapse when the workers trying to reach the light fixtures mounted on the high mast lighting poles. And then the system will raise the light units to the top and put them back to normal operation. The poles will swing back and forth which later on will result in the cracks at the base and cause the high mast lighting poles to fall down.
