Please read this link it provides a very insightful look into the real problems the military and specifiably the US Army faces today.
I am not sure exactly where this line is drawn now or even where it needs to be drawn in the future, but it appears it needs to move in some direction away from where it is now. The Generals have to become accountable for the advise the give to the US Civilian Leadership and not just blindly allow the real needs of battle to be push aside for political reason when the truth will save a lot of solders lives. It appears this has been allow to happen recently and needs to stop. Our young men and women are dying on foreign soil and their military leaders ( the Generals who advise the President ) are not being honest with the President and Sec. of Defense on the real needs of our troop, to do the job being asked of them by their US Civilian Leaders. This travesty of the military leadership can not be allowed to continue or and can not be allowed to continue by only promoting the people that get along well with the upper leadership but who really do not understand the issues needed to win the wars we are currently and or are likely to fight in the future. We are losing the very best of our future leaders we really need because their bosses suck at recognizing and promoting the best and brightest and and only promote the ones that do not rock the boat.
