I am a designer, engineer and artist whose work explores how our expectations of physical space are transformed by digital technology. I am fascinated by the spatial qualities of personal experience and explore the imaginary mechanics of recollection. I mine people's associative memory for elements in their life by creating expressive tools. I research seamless sensory interventions providing the wearers the opportunity to use fashion as a supporting mental health treatment. I am a researcher and PhD candidate at the MIT Media Laboratory in the Tangible Media Group with Dr. Hiroshi Ishii.
I am currently working on my general exams. For the contextual area, I work with Dr Edith Ackermann, honorary professor of developmental psychology in France and visiting professor of Architecture at MIT. I explore the psychological trade-off between what we call virtual and tangible “attachments”: I focus on people’s attachments to things, and through things, their relations to people (virtual and digital). I address the digital object collection mechanism in relation to the way we gather artifacts in the physical world.
For the technical area, I work with physicist Dr Joe Paradiso, Associate Professor at MIT. This area will cover technologies for body sensing and expression.
For the main area, I work with computer engineer Dr Hiroshi Ishii, Associate Professor at MIT. This area focuses on foundations in the design of tangible interfaces.
