As such, he assisted in breaking up several organized crime groups and worked along side the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the United States Secret Service. Additionally, Edward Claughton organized the Coral Gables Police Department’s participation in an FBI task force targeting South American jewel thieves. During this period, he also acted as a part-time Public Information Officer. After receiving a promotion to Police Sergeant, Edward Claughton next served in the Police Records and Technology Unit. In this position, he managed all departmental records and data systems, and restructured processes while implementing quality control measures to reduce the error rate on reporting. In 2007, Edward Claughton rose to the rank of Lieutenant. As Shift Commander of the Uniform Patrol Division, he holds responsibility for scheduling, allocating resources, budget matters, and managing a staff of almost 100 officers and sergeants. A member of the Justice Research and Statistics Association and The 200 Club, Edward Claughton maintains certifications as a Public Information Officer, Law Enforcement Auditor, and Public Records Manager. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Loyola University New Orleans and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice at Boston University. Claughton also belongs to the Police Benevolent Association, Inc. and the International Law Enforcement Auditors Association. In his 16 years of public service, Edward Claughton has received numerous awards, including Certificates of Commendation, the LEO Investigative Services Award, and the Bronze Medal of Valor.
