The Meaning Of A K&N Air Intake Device And How Does It Work

The parts of a K&N air intake device have to work together, for providing cool or warm air to an engine. Cars that are carburetor based do not have a complicated system. The vehicles that have fuel injection based engines have the complexity of their equipment higher. The parts that are common in fuel injection air intake equipment are the cold start valve and the throttle chamber.

In the seventies, most vehicles that were made were equipped with thermostatic systems. The role of a thermostatic intake system is to set the air temperature of the tract flow. In order to maximize the performance of an engine, the air gets either cold, when the engine is warm or warm when the engine is cold.

The intake system of a fuel injected car works in a totally different way. The air is taken through a plastic tube, in most cases. The tube has to be long, because the flow must be good and steady. The fluid passes through a filter and an Air Flow Meter. There are two types when it comes to an AFM: it can be vane, or it can be a hot wired one.

The vane type of meter is made with a flap that moves back, when the pressure of the flow forces it. Also, an AFM has a sensor that is similar, when it comes to functioning, with the ones contained by a carburetor engine. When a hot wired AFM is involved, it has wires with a steady voltage. Once the wires get cooled by the air flow, the voltage increases and a signal goes to a computer and the mixture is adjusted.

In a fuel injected system, a throttle chamber controls the flow. If the chamber becomes closed, a car may be stopping. Another component of the fuel injected system is the start valve, which is heated electrically. A choke of a carburetor works as the valve. The idle speed of a car can be changed by both of the components, as they handle the airflow.

With the aid of a K&N air intake system, cool air or a warm flow can be provided for an engine. Regardless of the fact that a vehicle may use a carburetor or fuel injection equipment, the main reason for using an intake system is improving the engine performance.
